One of the perks of being a pet photographer is getting to meet lots of dog-loving people and their awesome dogs. But another bonus is getting to hear the stories behind people and their pets. When Jay was growing up, he had a neighbor with a chocolate lab named Rowdy, whom he adored. Nine years ago, Jay’s sister surprised him with a Christmas present: a chocolate lab puppy, who Jay named—yes, you guessed it: Rowdy! Now nine years later, Jay’s wife Catherine surprised him with a birthday gift of a pet photography session of Rowdy. I’d say Jay is pretty lucky to have a great dog like Rowdy, and even luckier that his sister and wife are great at surprising him with fabulous gifts!

Despite the weather forecasts for rain, we lucked out with a beautiful, and unseasonably warm, 70 degree morning at Sullivan’s Island. I must admit, Rowdy is the most handsome and gentlemanly (chocolate) lab I’ve ever met! (My yellow lab, Cooper, insisted I added the “chocolate” part in there.) Here’s a look at our morning spent at the beach:

Alice G Patterson - LOVE that sandy face… classic and hilarious! Your clients must be thrilled with all of these wonderful portraits!

Maggie & Chloe

I love when people surprise their loved ones with a gift of pet photography, and even moreso when they can keep the secret all the way through the process to final prints (most don’t even make it to the photo session without having revealed the secret). Maggie & Chloe’s mom, Katie, got a pet photo session as a surprise gift for her hubby, and we got the whole thing completed just in time for her to surprise him with framed prints for Christmas. We had a great time at the beach on Sullivan’s Island shooting these images, and the final framed prints looked fabulous. Thanks Katie, Maggie, and Chloe for a great time at the beach!

Alice G Patterson - Oh my goodness, saw this from a link on the Daily Dog Tag facebook page, and I’m so in love with this session. That wide shot of the two dogs strolling down the beach is just about the best thing I’ve seen in a long while… these two are so dang cute!

Cooper’s 7th birthday at the beach on Sullivan’s Island

It’s hard for us to believe, but today is our California boy Cooper’s 7th birthday. We celebrated by taking him to the beach, and as you can see in the images below, he couldn’t have been more excited and happy to run around on the beach and splash around in the water. I’m sure there will be a lot more beach trips with Cooper now that the tourists are back home and the early morning beach is again left to the locals and their dogs. Happy Birthday Cooper!!!
